How Can I Work Effectively From Home?

Whenever people find out you work from home, they most likely let you know they wish they could do the same. However, while working from home is a highly desirable way of working for most, working from home effectively can take a lot of planning and effort.

How can I work effectively from home? Working effectively from home is not an easy thing at all, you are required to create a properly designated workspace, structure your workdays, keep yourself away from distractions and stay productive throughout the entire day meanwhile working on various tasks. Planning your work hours and taking the needed breaks are just two out of many things you must be paying attention to if you want to effectively work from home. We are all different and it is extremely important for you to figure out your personal preferences for work hours, location and workspaces you will do your work at.

If you just started working from home for the first time, you must be aware that it is not a ‘’perk’’ as most people think it is. Working from home is a legitimate way to work and the sole fact you are sat in your home working does not make it any less serious at all. It does not matter what type of work you do from your home, there are elements that will prove to be very necessary if you wish to succeed.

Maybe working in pajamas has been your dream for a long time, but have you tried to actually dress up and prepare for your work as you usually would if you worked in a regular office space? Many remote workers end up struggling with their workflow simply because they gave themselves too much freedom around the house meanwhile they work. If you want to be effective, there are things you will need to change and work on.

Consistent Sleeping Schedule And A Routine

Everyone requires quality sleep in order to function properly when working on assignments, you do too. Your sleeping schedule is a routine you will want to work on if you wish to come up with great business results and prove to be a great home worker. Many people struggle to create a decent sleeping schedule and it often makes them very tired and less productive once they get to work. Create a sleeping schedule that will allow you to have enough sleep and fill you with the required energy for the day after. Human beings require 7, up to 9 hours of sleep per night to function at their best, therefore, make sure you get this amount of sleep every single night. (Check out this review of – Why We Sleep)

Pick the time when you will do your skincare routine, brush your teeth, take a shower and head to bed. Set an alarm to wake you up 7-9 hours after, and look at your routine and workflow changing for better in no time. People who sleep properly on a daily basis tend to have better business results and they do not struggle as much with their focus at all. Less sleep does not equal more productivity.

Create A Morning Routine

Yes, many have told you how great working in pajamas is, but it is certainly not something you should make a routine. Upon waking up, take a shower, do your hygiene and dress up as if you normally would if you were working in the office. Having a decent morning routine can make your workday much better and also keep you focused as you work on new assignments and talk to your co-workers via chat programs.

Creation Of A Dedicated Workspace

Just because you are finally able to work from home, does not mean you should be working at the random places in your house. If you want to be efficient and come up with great results, you will want to create a vibrantly designed workspace that will allow you to stay focused and keep you away from the regular distractions you face when working from home.

Proper Office Furniture And Equipment

Every office deserves to have printers, copiers, computers, paper shredders, a chair, and a good desk. All these things are important for your office, even if you are all alone and work from home. Having to go to your friend to print out the papers or visiting your cousin because she has a better computer than you can seriously damage your workflow and take away a lot of your precious time.

Greenery And Natural Light

Bring all of the natural light you can into your home office. Doing so, you will end up happier, less distracted, feeling less stressed and also get a huge productivity boost. If you are unable to get much natural light into your home office, it is advised you look into finding an alternative way of getting more light into the room. Once you get the light going, it will be the perfect time for you to bring in some greenery! Greenery brings many positive effects to you and will also make your office space look a lot more lively. It has been scientifically proven that greenery reduces our stress levels, increases our productivity, creativity and also cleanses the air around us.

Finding Out Your Most Productive Hours

No one really goes through their work from morning to evening, your motivation levels go up and down throughout the day and all of it has an effect on your workflow. When you work from home, it is important to figure out when your motivation levels go up and when do they go down. Knowing these times, you will be able to focus on your most important tasks when your motivation levels are up and rising. This means you will bring out better business results and slowly get to your less important tasks once your motivation levels fall down. Many home workers out there call these small tasks ‘’small acts of success’’ and they usually help us build up the motivation for bigger projects later on when our motivation levels rise up once again.

Communicate With People

Feeling isolated is one of the biggest struggles of a home worker. Many home workers get working on their tasks throughout the day and they simply forget how important it is to communicate with other people, be it family, friends or even their co-workers via video chat. If you want to effectively work from home and feel good as you work, you must make sure you communicate with people when you feel the need to. My go-to is Zoom.

Co-Workers And Your Boss

As a home worker, you might have noticed sometimes it is impossible to meet up with your co-workers in person, but that does not mean you should never communicate with them and get to know how well they are doing. Thanks to technology nowadays, you can easily video chat and talk to your co-workers or your boss on the go. For example, use Zoom to talk about your projects as you work. Doing this, you will feel a lot less isolated and you will actually feel as if you are working a regular job at the office.

Increasing Your Productivity By Trying Out Different Methods

Finding a perfect way to motivate yourself and increase your productivity is not an easy thing at all. Especially if you never tried out some of the following methods. Some home workers prefer working in complete quiet, some prefer listening to certain kinds of motivational music, while others might enjoy working outside in nature as they can hear the birds and enjoy the fresh air. Try out all of the following methods and see which one works best for you, if none of them really work well, that probably means you are one of those who prefer to be in quiet.

Music

Music is one of the biggest motivational triggers out there for many people, it can boost our creativity and productivity levels as we work. Music can help us stay motivated and focused on our tasks as well as make us feel better when things do not go our way. Try out listening to some of the great video game soundtracks, movie soundtracks or simply lyric-free music that is designed to actually help you focus!

Coffee Shops

Coffee shops are becoming a very popular destination for work nowadays. People like the smell of freshly brewed coffee, hear people chatting and somehow it really works for many home workers. Try it out, maybe it works out for you too.

TV

Certain home workers will tell you to never have your TV on when working, but others will tell you the TV background noises actually help them focus. Try putting your TV on a low volume and get your assignments done. It does not even matter whether it is a show you follow or just a random channel, apparently, it can do miracles for some.

Exercise

You cannot really be exercising and working at the same time at all, but exercise can certainly help you increase your productivity levels and help you motivate yourself for the working tasks ahead. Exercising is a great way of relaxing as well as living a healthier life.

What is the best alternative to natural light? Halogen bulbs actually give the light that is the closest to natural light as we know it. These bulbs are a great alternative to natural light and their light is usually seen/known as ‘’white light’’. Halogen bulbs are more energy-efficient than others, but they are also a little bit more expensive. Sadly, unlike LED bulbs which last up to 25,000 hours, Halogen bulbs last only around 2,000 hours in most cases.
